Support for Professionals

CAUSE has a wealth of experience – nearly 30 years – in delivering carer awareness training and information sessions to a diverse range of professionals, trainees and students. As a peer-led organisation, all of our front-line team have direct personal experience of supporting a loved one with a serious mental illness.

We also work closely with health, social care and community service providers, universities, colleges and professional associations to deliver interactive, bespoke training and presentations to enhance professionals’ understanding of carers’ needs, issues and perspectives.

‘Every year I send groups of students out to visit service user or carer groups to have a discussion with them about social work values. CAUSE has participated in these visits for over 10 years now, helping first year students to think about how values are demonstrated in practice. Teaching on social work values is centrally important in social work education as a core aspect of underpinning knowledge in preparing students for practice. These face-to-face encounters between students and service users and carers really help students to think about values in a concrete way and students consistently report that their understanding of social work values has been most significantly influenced by the contributions from service users and carers whom they meet during these visits.
